Around 1400 hours on Tuesday, January 27th, Southold Fire Department was dispatched for a possible Signal 13 on the Main Road in the viciinity of Cat Alley. Chief Goldsmith was first on scene and immediately confirmed a Signal 13/35 and called for mutual aid units from Cutchogue and Greenport. Although the snow had recently stopped falling, firefighters had to cope with difficult road conditions, substantial drifts and below freezing temperatures. All occupants of the house were able to exit safely, but the fire caused considerable damage rendering the structure uninhabitable. Additional mutual aid support was obtained from East Marion and Mattituck. Operations were conducted under the command of Chiefs Killian, Rich and Goldsmith with all units being dismissed shortly before 1700 hours.
