Shortly before Midnight on Friday, July 19th, a vehicle travelling northwest on Main Bayview Road in the vicinity of Jacobs Lane departed the paved section of the roadway and made contact with a utility pole. The force of the impact fractured the utility pole in several places, dislodged a transformer from the pole and caused all of the passive restraint systems in the vehicle to activate. Upon arrival, Southold Fire Department members discovered that two occupants of the vehicle had self-extricated and were walking around surveying the scene. Said occupants were finally corralled and convinced, due to the force of the impact, to go to Eastern Long Island Hospital for assessment of possible injuries. Upon further questioning of the two, it was revealed that there had been a third occupant who had also self-extricated, had walked to his nearby home, and had ridden a bicycle back to the scene to see for himself what had happened. When this passenger finally returned home he decided that he didn't feel quite normal and Southold Rescue was activated once again to transport him to ELIH to join his friends for observation. SFD left the accident scene in the able care of the Southold Police Department to await LIPA's arrival and the subsequent removal of the vehicle.
