Southold Fire Department unit 8-4-2 (or 8-4-4), in operation 28 years ago today on the north side of Sunrise Highway during the Sunrise Fire. The mutual aid response lasted several days. Our apparatus remained on scene for the duration of the emergency with firefighting personnel being rotated from headquarters as needed to assure rehabilitation time and safety.
