Southold House Fire Claims 2 Victims

A early-morning fire on Aug. 23, 2011 claimed 2 victims in southold. Southold Fire Chief Keith Cummings said the fire on Goose Creek Lane was reported at 5:20 a.m. The first emergency responders were on the scene within two minutes of receiving the call.

"The back of the home was engulfed with a heavy, heavy smoke load and fire pushing out the windows," he said.

"We tried a second-floor vent to try and gain entry, and we were able to get in and conduct a near search in the area around the windows," but deteriorating conditions made an extensive search of the home difficult, Cummings said.
