On America's birthday, in the spirit of inter-agency cooperation and goodwill, the Southold Fire Department assisted American Legion Post 803, https://post803.com/ by bringing the ladder truck to the post and untangling their American Flag. Prior days heavy winds had ensnared and tangled the flag atop the pole with no way for the American Legion to untangle it. They reached out to SFD and Chief Ty Cochran and other volunteers hurried to untangle the flag just a short while prior to the start of the July 4th Southold Town parade. After untangling the flag the ladder truck headed back to headquarters and lined up for the fire departments parade display of emergency response vehicles, Marching Band and volunteers. The parade was a great success and the American Legions flag flew proudly over the post at 51655 Main Rd.

A special shout-out to 105 year old WWII veteran and American Legion member Dr. Irv Pitman. Happy disclosure: Dr. Pitman is the father of this reporters friend and pickleball partner John Pitman.
