At 1717 hours on Sunday, May 3, Southold Fire Department was alerted to a single vehicle MVA on Route 48. Responding units discovered some self-extrication had occurred with a female passenger still trapped in the front seat area. Skillful use of powered tools quickly removed a door freeing the patient who was taken to the helicopter landing zone at Station 2 for transport to Stony Brook University Hospital. Another victim was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center. The entire response was conducted under the command of Chief Killian.
