At 0332 hours on 18 July 2010 Southold Fire Department was dispatched to a Signal 16/23 MVA on Route 48. Upon arrival it was discovered that a vehicle had struck two high tension electric poles and had come to rest opposite its original direction of travel. The lone female occupant of the car self-extricated, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital. Since the driver had removed herself from the vehicle, extrication tools were not employed - the damage portrayed was solely from the force of the collision. At the scene five pennies were found that had been in the car - all five were lying "heads-up."
