At 2252 hours on Saturday, July 28, SFD was dispatched to an MVA at "Monument Corner" on Route 25. Arriving units found a BMW coupe had contacted (at speed) a utility pole and had come to rest in front of the St. Patrick's Church Parking lot. The male driver, who stated that he had fallen asleep, was evaluated by SFD Rescue and refused medical attention (RMA) following consultation with Suffolk Medical Control. Although the BMW suffered terminal damage in the allision, the protection that it provided to its driver was a testament to the strength of its construction. Even the battery remained functional thanks to its protected location.
