Yesterday morning, Mr. Datum, subject of an intense search and rescue effort, was plucked from the warm and calm waters of Great Peconic Bay north of the Shinnecock Canal by members of Southold's Marine Rescue Unit. Come to the Coast Guard's refresher training on Tuesday, August 30th, from 1800 hours until 2200 hours, to meet Mr. Datum and hear the exciting story of his amazing rescue. Dinner will be served and the course is open to all members of the Department who have completed Part One of the USCG Search and Rescue Training. Please note that Mr. Datum will be unable to provide autographs as he has neither hands or arms.
