Lighting strike burns home to the ground

At 1631 on August 8 Southold Fire responded to a working structure fire. 13/35. neighbor stated that they were watching the lighting strikes off the water when the heard a very loud pop and looked out there window and saw the side of the neighbors house lite up. The house was under construction outside finished but the inside was not so there was no sheetrock to aid in slowing down the spread of the fire. First arriving units saw a fully involved home, neighbors home the siding had melted off from the heat of the fire. The fire was quickly extinguished and a lengthy over hall began, with removing shingles from the garage with a back hoe to gain access to the basement to finish putting out the fire.
Chief Jim Rich was in charge with the assistance of Chief Goldsmith and Chief Killian and approx. 50 members.
Trucks responding were 8-4-1, 8-4-2, 8-4-4 & 8-4-16 & fire police.
