Tuesday, October 14th, was a beautiful day and the Southold Fire Department took the opportunity to host its annual Fire Prevention Day at Station 2 for Kindergarteners and at Southold Elementary School for Grades 1-3. Under the direction of Ex-Chief Witzke, who says he has been doing the program for almost 30 years, members of SFD demonstrated fire prevention and fire safety techniques through an extremely popular puppet show. Parents Jeff Boyle, Charlie Manwaring, Michelle Salmon and grand parent Kevin Erdman donned turnout gear to familiarize all with the appearance of a firefighter using an SCBA before posing with their offspring for a family portrait. The success and longevity of Southold's program was highlighted when Firefighters David Surozenski and Chris Kirincic both said that they remember the Fire Prevention Day program when they were at Southold School.
