On Sunday, June 8, at 14:00 hours, the members, their families, and friends of the Southold Fire Department convened at Goldsmith's Marina to christen the newest addition to the Southold Fire Department, a 32 x 10 Emergency Response Vessel built by Munson Boats. Blessings for successful rescues and the safety, health, and well-being of the crews that operate on her were provided by SFD Chaplain Catherine Wilinski, Father Abraham Thannickal of St. Patrick's Church, Southold, and Rev. Dr. Peter Kelley of First Presbyterian Church, Southold.
A lighthearted moment occurred during the ceremonial breaking of the champagne bottle across the bow. These bottles are historically strong and can be downright uncooperative when it comes to smashing at the right moment. Check out the video link below to witness the ceremony.
Training Officer John Roslak presented a demonstration of the forward water cannon after the christening.
After the ceremony, everyone returned to SFD Headquarters for refreshments, a light lunch, and Christening Cake! |
