1640 hours on Friday, April 26, Southold Fire Department was activated for "car vs. pole" on Route 48. Responding units found a van off the north side of the road, a severely shattered high tension pole and multiple wires down across the roadway. Male driver self extricated and was transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Westbound traffic was diverted from Route 48 at Youngs Avenue and eastbound traffic at Horton's Lane by Southold Town Police until the scene was cleared.
