At 1411 hours on Friday, April 27, Southold Fire Department was dispatched for a "car vs. tree" in front of the Old Peconic School. In the heavy rain of the afternoon, a southbound truck departed the paved roadway, squeezed between a utility pole and a tree on the front lawn of the school before ending its journey against a second tree that suffered severe bark abrasion. The truck's driver was assisted from the cab by members of Southold Rescue who transported him to ELIH for further treatment.
