On Tuesday, March 27th, the Southold Fire Department joined with the Mattituck Fire Department to pay tribute to the members of the 106th Rescue Wing who lost their lives while protecting us overseas. A contingent from both departments participated in hoisting Southold's largest flag (the same one hung in front of SFD headquarters every 9/11) across the Quogue-Riverhead Road. Units 8-4-1 and 8-6-8 extended their ladder almost vertically to allow the huge flag to fully open above the funeral procession of Tech. Sgt. Dashan Briggs of Wading River, a full time member of the 106th. We thank all members of our Armed Forces and their families for their continuing sacrifices so that we may remain free.
